Now that I have my mobile tech blog well under way, I can now pick up on this blog and focus on using the web and digital technology in a marketing capacity. As I mentioned in the introductory post, Blogging allows a small business the opportunity to use a great new marketing vehicle; Podcasting.
Podcasting is a recorded piece of media. This format started out as audio but since both it's popularity and the accompanying bandwidth have grown, podcasters are turning to video to create their media message as well. The great thing about podcasting is that if you are the first one to use it in your geographic area, you can separate yourself from your competion by giving industry "tips" in your podcast. For example, if you are a carpenter who specializes in remodeling, you can talk about things that can make a weekend do it yourselfer more successful. If you are willing to share some insider secrets on some of the smaller jobs that don't amount to much profit anyway, you will be remembered when that do it yourselfer knows he or she is in over their head. It will be you they call to hire for the big job. Because you are giving free advice, this also means when it comes to being hired for a job, you won't have to give a hefty discount to get the job. You have already proven your value by the advice taken and used by the prospect that got you to this point of getting hired. If the tips aren't any good, you won't get any calls, so they have to have some value to the listener.
So, how do you create a podcast? Hire someone like me (since I've given you this great tip for promoting your small business). I can teach you how to do it or set up a residual fee to come to your business and set up the gear to record it for you.
Email me at jay@coosbaytv.com to discuss your idea for a podcast and a blog to host it on.
